What is it? A day camp for kids. It’s safe,  adventurous, and lots of fun.

Who is it for? There are eight weeks of camp in July and August for kids entering kindergarten through seventh grade in the fall. Campers are divided into teams by age groups and gender, although many activities are camp wide where everyone participates as a group with their counselors.

Where is it? Day camp is based at the campus of Cherrydale Baptist Church in Arlington, Va., at the corner of Lorcom Lane and Military Road. We’re just a few minutes from Georgetown, the National Mall, Ballston, and Clarendon. The facilities are great.

Who directs it? The program is part of Cherrydale’s Children and Family Ministry, directed by Pastor Herb Owen. Herb has led great camps almost forever! You’ll love our staff!

What is the schedule? Camp meets each day from 9am-4pm. You can arrive 15 minutes earlier or stay 15 minutes later at no additional cost.  We suggest you check-in by 8:50am to get to your team room on time. Also, the Early Show is for kids who arrive between 7:15 and 8:45am and the Late Show is for kids who leave between 4:15 and 5:45pm. Note that this is a Day Camp, not daycare. We encourage campers to be here for the entire day so they won’t miss anything!

What is the cost? There is a one-time registration fee of $15 for each camper. The non-refundable weekly fee is $159 (or $37 a day). Because there’s no camp on July 4, week 1 (Carnival Camp) is just $149. The early or late programs are $4 each, every day you attend (with prepaid tickets).

What about lunch? Campers bring their lunch each day. Snacks (including lots of healthy ones) and beverages are available for purchase at the Filling Station. You’ll make deposits to your camper’s Filling Station account so your child won’t lose money at camp. We post a listing of account balances online each afternoon.

One more thing: Religiously-owned Day Camps are not required to be state-licensed in Virginia. We do, however, meet or exceed all state requirements for camps like ours. You may request full information in writing. There are lots of great camps around and no camp fits everyone. But most kids who want to have a great time and experience lots of cool things in a safe, loving, Christian environment think Camp Kids Place is awesome. Check out what parents said about our camp at the bottom of this page.

Summer vacation should be a wonderful time for kids. We’ve planned eight great weeks at Camp Kids Place 2012 for the guys and girls in your life that will make their vacation days among the greatest days of the year. It’s a fun, exciting, safe place for your children.

Here’s what we’ve planned

There are eight weeks of Day Camp conveniently centered around the Arlington campus of Cherrydale Baptist Church. The facilities are great, just right for an awesome time all summer long. The gym is perfect for high-energy fun. The kids love it here. Once you read below what we’ve planned for the summer, the obvious question is, “What more could a kid ask for?”

It’s the people at camp who make those memories. Our staff makes kids feel loved and important. We work to help campers build good relationships with adults and other kids. Camp is like a big family that encourages and strengthens each other. We’ll do what it takes to make sure your child “fits in” and feels at home with the other kids.

Our campers enjoy learning a lot as they have a great time. They go home feeling that they’ve spent the day with good friends who really care about them as individuals—as well as an important part of the group. It’s just the thing for kids enjoying their first camp experience as well as for “seasoned pros” who’ve been to camp before.

We’re planning everything carefully to make each week great. We expect most weeks to fill up quickly. So plan on selecting your weeks soon so your family will not be disappointed by a full camp. You and your camper will love what we’ve planned. We’ll make sure your child has a safe and fun time each day at camp!

About Day Camp...

Camp Kids Place is a Christian camp with the perfect combination of fun, adventure and Christian character training. It’s for both guys and girls who will enter kindergarten (and are already at least five years old) through those entering 7th grade in the fall. There are lots of activities for everyone, with something for each interest and age. Campers play our famous “Carpet Ball,” slide down the giant waterslide and other outside adventures at the new “Kids Place Station”, enjoy activities in the gym, join their team for great competition, participate in non-sectarian kid-friendly Bible activities where they learn to develop Christian character, do those crazy camp things kids love, and enjoy appropriate video games in Kids Place Plaza. That’s also the home of “The Filling Station,” our snack shop where kids can spend time with friends while they enjoy lunch or a snack. (Campers bring a lunch, but snacks and beverages are available for purchase.)

Camp Kids Place offers everything from nature studies and hikes to team projects and sports with swimming and other adventures at nearby places. Kids enjoy making a mess while creating something amazing in the Craft Shop or working to earn points to help their team become “Team of the Week.” Plus, there are lots of individual awards and honors.

Camp is not “too hard” for little kids while being “totally awesome” for older campers. You can register your camper and select the weeks of camp you want at the top of this page. Then send in your payment to hold your reservation.

Important Stuff...

Attendance at Camp Kids Place is open to all kids regardless of religion or ethnic background. Please remember that Camp Kids Place is a Christian camp that teaches biblical principles to our campers.

Participation in the camp is a privilege, not a right. In order to participate in camp, children must be able to successfully function in a large-group community setting. While all children make mistakes while growing up, for the safety of our campers we cannot accommodate children who do not or will not properly relate to authority, fail to show respect for equipment, the facility, and for other campers, or will not submit themselves to camp rules and policies.

This website represents the official policies of the camp. As camp time approaches please read the Day Camp Parents Information Newsletter (available at camp and online) as it contains specific information that is a part of how we do camp. Late minute additions can be found online. These three sources explain our policies and most everything you’ll need to know.  Have more questions? Just give us a call!

Oh...one more thing.
We asked parents of last summer’s campers to share their thoughts about camp.
Here’s some of what they told us...

· I love how warm, supportive and creative the entire staff is. My husband and I were shocked that we could find a program that was so creative and innovative for about the same price as other camps that offered only basic programming. We called it "Arlington's best kept secret" because it was actually possible to get a spot (or two) in Camp Kids Place! (We also called it a kid's utopia because, well...water slides and moon bounces? What's not to like!) However, I think the word is getting out...next year, we will sign up right away. Camp Kids Place is the only camp that my children want to attend.

· It was the first time at Camp Kids Place. I liked the fact that everything was very organized. We were kept up to date on what was going on. The facility was clean, we could see pictures online each day and the staff was wonderful. My daughter really enjoyed it.

· Thank you so much because of you my child had a blast this summer.

· My kids loved everything about Camp Kids Place! Especially the snack bar :) It was the first camp in three years that they wanted to go to through the end of the week. (At) most camps they are complaining by Wednesday about finishing the week.

· Extremely well organized and an excellent value.

· This is a great camp! They are highly organized and creative. Each week is different and fun. The water slide is a big attraction.

· The obvious organization is appreciated. So many camps and kids programs just feel like barely organized chaos. The thought put into the different aspects of the program are a great comfort to those of us who are type A personalities.

· My children enjoyed themselves at camp, I was confident they were appropriately supervised and cared for, the camp offers great hours for working parents, and was very reasonably priced.

· As a parent, I appreciate the organization of the camp. From the moment we walked through the doors, we encountered an overly helpful staff. Very easy to enroll in before and after care. The things that normally a parent would worry about, was non existent. From a program standpoint, my son enjoyed the week. He talked about the camp evey night. Paper airplane contest, pool, water slide. A great experience!

· Each week we had a new and exciting adventure starting on Monday. It provided for variety but at the same time comfort because it was the same process and people week after week. The outside entertainment included with each week’s theme added an element of intrigue because they were always correctly tied to the theme of the week. Our son learned independence and responsibility by using the ID/money card for his snack shop purchases

· We had a wonderful experience at Camp Kids Place this summer. My daughter has already asked to do more weeks next year. From the moment I stepped in the door, I liked how organized the camp was. You definitely got a feeling that everything was in order and your child was going to be well taken care of all day. The counselors were all engaged and caring. The theme each week added so much to the experience and the dress-up component was fun for the kids. You did a great job of bringing in unique activities to supplement the regular ones--loved the extra equipment that you had outside during Cosmos Camp and Champ Camp. For one week we got an email the Sunday before laying out the week's activities. This was fabulous and helped with the planning of the week and both setting expectations and talking about activities with my child. I absolutely loved that you posted photos for us to see what happened during the day. And, from a financial standpoint, the value was incredible!

· Not only was the content of the camp great, the price is unbeatable. With three kids in camps, cost becomes truly critical.

· There were so many things that our family liked about Camp Kids Place. It was extremely organized, well run, GREAT counselors, interesting, imaginative, creative and FUN. Plus, the price was wonderful. So many camps charge an arm and a leg and you feel ripped off. Camp Kids Place put on a wonderful camp and you felt like it was worth every penny. I enjoyed dropping my daughter off knowing she was so happy to be there and that she was safe and being looked after in every way. I loved all the "extras", like the fun contests, the water slide, being able to view the camp pictures and prizes like the limo ride. My daughter still talks about that limo ride. Overall, it was a wonderful experience and we will be back next summer for sure!

· My daughter said this was the one camp that she definitely wanted to do again next year. Good balance of indoor/outdoor fun/crafts.

· The immediate sense of belonging and enthusiasm. My sons enjoyed the activities in Genius and Cosmo weeks. They enjoyed the counselors and outdoor water slide. I appreciated the ease of check in and out.

· My boys (ages 7 & 9) had a blast. Having never done a full-day camp before, I was unsure what to expect when I picked them up. The first word out of both of their mouths when I asked how the day had been was an enthusiastic, "AWESOME." They loved the competitions, the water slide and the arts activities. They made great new friends, felt very comfortable and had tons of fun! I loved how well organized the sign in and out was and the name tags. It felt very safe and secure for a parent leaving their children.
